Our first post! Yummy potatoes

Last spring we had a few potatoes that were ... past the eating stage. After sticking them whole into the ground, and with no watering fertilizing or weeding, we now have:

Potatoes, cleaned
Isn't that texture gorgeous?
our favorite, destined for yummy goodness

Roasted, with salt pepper and rosemary. nom nom.

As an aside, can you tell which pics were taken in natural light?

Hi! How did you know when the new potatoes were ready to dig up?? I have always wondered, never having attempted potatoes before.

Also, yes, I can definitely tell which are the natural light photos. I wish I could always post natural light photos on my own blog, but it just isn't practical to make dinner, for example, while the sun is still up, just so I can take better pics. :-)

The advice I've seen from other bloggers is to reserve a portion for lunch the next day and use that for pics (although I'm usually not home midday in the winter)... As for the potatoes, we dug 'em up when the vines died back. (That's what Ted and his family always do, but the internet says you can also harvest earlier, in July)

Thanks for being our first commenter! *happy dance
